I have been convicted of Ill Treatment to Animal(s)/Animal Cruelty-a misdemeanor. However, when I check no to the employer\'s question, they run a background check, and will not hire me because of the misdemeanor. One employer has even asked me, \"Is\'nt this what that football player was charged with?\" then added,\"Oh yeah, it is, I mean, this is serious....I don\'t think we\'re gonna be able to use you right now.\" I was only 18 yrs old, living in my first house when a dog was killed in my back yard by my neighbors who threw rocks at the dog until it was dead; Then, they called the police and told the police that the dog had been dead in my yard for several days. My other neighbor witnessed the whole ordeal while I was at work. However, Judge Wayne Copeland told me that he had to charge me because I was the owner of the resident in which the dog died. I told him how I thought the conviction would affect my future, and Wayne told me not to worry because the charge is not serious. If it matters, I am a black woman who has always resided in the city of clinton, SC; And, this is my first conviction. In 2006, I was kicked out of Piedmont Technical College\'s Nursing Program (Greenwood, SC)because of this misdemeanor.
