killing is wrong under any circumstances.
This is a tricky debate. The Pro side needs to define early on what they mean by "killing" and what they mean by "wrong," while at the same time keeping the debate interesting. However, the Con side should be discouraged from pushing an extremely liberal interpretation of the proposition as well, by saying something like "So killing trees and bugsand bacteria is wrong?" Both sides needs to find a happy, healthy, debatable middle-ground. This debate basically includes the abortion debate, the suicide debate, the euthanasia debate ad the death penalty debate, all in one. Both sides need to be creative in their arguments. Don't be afraid to use and "out there" argument, as long as it's logical and fits the topic; let the other side find the flaw. |

Should China’s One Child Policy Go Global?
In urban areas of China, the government encourages families to have one child only, exerting pressure on couples who have more than one, offering free abortions, and levying fines against people who choose to have more than one child. The one child policy has been largely ignored by most residents in rural areas of China, and in truth is not regularly enforced. Yet in cities where the immense population of China is overwhelmingly felt, strong pressure exists for families to not have more than a single child.\r\nWhat do you think?? \r\n |

Should misdemeanors be placed on a person\'s criminal background check?
When applying for a job, most employers ask if the applicant has ever been convicted of a serious crime or felony within the last 10 yrs. I have been convicted of Ill Treatment to Animal(s)/Animal Cruelty-a misdemeanor. However, when I check no to the employer\'s question, they run a background check, and will not hire me because of the misdemeanor. One employer has even asked me, \"Is\'nt this what that football player was charged with?\" then added,\"Oh yeah, it is, I mean, this is serious....I don\'t think we\'re gonna be able to use you right now.\" I was only 18 yrs old, living in my first house when a dog was killed in my back yard by my neighbors who threw rocks at the dog until it was dead; Then, they called the police and told the police that the dog had been dead in my yard for several days. My other neighbor witnessed the whole ordeal while I was at work. However, Judge Wayne Copeland told me that he had to charge me because I was the owner of the resident in which the dog died. I told him how I thought the conviction would affect my future, and Wayne told me not to worry because the charge is not serious. If it matters, I am a black woman who has always resided in the city of clinton, SC; And, this is my first conviction. In 2006, I was kicked out of Piedmont Technical College\'s Nursing Program (Greenwood, SC)because of this misdemeanor. In my heart, in my mind, theres an urge that will not let this conviction or misdemeanor defeat me. One day soon, I will become a registered nurse. |

Starbucks
FOR years it seemed that American consumers’ demand for liquid fuel was price inelastic—whether it was to drive their cars or get their brains going in the morning. Yet $4 seems to have been the price at which demand becomes elastic, for both petrol and a frothy latte. As a result, baristas at Starbucks coffee shops around America are starting to get a taste of what it feels like to be a carworker in Detroit. On July 1st the coffee retailer, based in Seattle, said it would close a further 500 stores in America (in addition to the 100 closures it announced earlier this year), and reduce its workforce of roughly 172,000 by around 7%.
There are also innovations in the works, ranging from healthy smoothies, to a mysterious (and so far unnamed) Italian drink, to further automation. In March Starbucks bought the Coffee Equipment Company, a small outfit that produces a hugely expensive coffee-making machine called the Clover. It is now testing the machines in a handful of its American shops.
Admittedly, there have been some complaints about the introduction of the milder “Pike Place” filter-coffee blend. But on the firm’s popular new customer website, MyStarbucksIdea.com, the main concerns are about the quality of the food sold by Starbucks and, above all, its prices. Encouragingly for Starbucks, there are also many positive suggestions, from serving vegan food to introducing a loyalty card, which suggests that plenty of customers still care for Starbucks enough to give him a chance to win them back—recession or no recession.

Sterilization of pets
What is sterilization?\r\nFor a female, sterilization is called spaying. This procedure is usually performed around six months of age and involves removing both ovaries and the uterus. For a male, sterilization is called castrating or neutering (although the term \"neuter\" can refer to both sexes). This procedure is also performed around six months of age and involves removing both testicles. Many shelters and rescue organizations are successfully spaying and neutering pets as young as eight weeks old to help prevent pet overpopulation.\r\n\r\nSo is it permissible to sterilizate pets or not? |

2)Opp- disagreeing with the motion by saying no we have not lost the true Christmas spirit, we understand its ethics and origins and contribute to the religion of it far more than we do to the economics. Traditions still stand and we dont ignore them.

This house believes that disposable items should cost double.
Disposable items are items that we use in our daily life such as diapers, sanitary pad, cameras and even contact lenses. Is it logical to double up the price when it is being used in a high usage by the consumers. Don't you think that if the price doubled up, less people will buy it? As a rwsult, don't you think that it will stunt the country's economy growth? |

This House Supports Governments untying all foreign aid.
Tied aid is foreign aid that must be spent in the country providing the aid (the donor country) or in a group of selected countries. A developed country will provide a bilateral loan or grant to a developing country, but mandate that the money be spent on goods or services produced in the selected country. Thus, untied aid has no geographical limitations.
Currently OECD estimates that 41.7 percent of Official Development Assistance is untied.
Is this enough or should governments untie all foreign aid to increase aid effectiveness.
This topic is of great importance because of the recent high level meeting in Accra, Ghana. |

Will microfinancing solve problems of poverty in developing nations?
One possible solution that has presented itself in recent years is that of “microfinancing.” According to this new idea, banks give minute, low interest loans directly to individuals – Sometimes as small as 2 dollars a day. The purpose of these loans is to allow individuals – mostly single working women – to run businesses, and have enough money to break the circle of poverty, keep their kids in school, and over time, the people themselves emerge from poverty. |
