Do you think that these days young Roma in the countries of Roma Decade are having enough and equal opportunities to participate in the public life?

Are they enough represented in various social events, such as conferences, seminars, summer schools?

I think that there are a lack of youth Roma who participate in conferences, seminars, summer schools, etc. Sometimes the barier is the English language, and sometimes Roma are not motivated for those thing were you can get a lot of knowledge and to improve yourself. I adore to participate in forign seminars and there is always opportunity to be a participant as a minority.

Im attending 9 month intercultural education in Swiss in Pestalozzi foundation, and its a great pleasure to represent Serbia as a Roma.

Greetings!!!

Theoretically speaking, Roma NGOs should provide the opportunities for young Roma to participate in conferences, seminars, summer schools, etc. They should also motivate them to be more educated (including learning English) and to improve themselvesc (i.e. capacity building).

Do you think that these organizations are implementing this mission successfully?

Please, think about what will these seminars and conferences give to the young Roma? Are they really useful and helpful? Actually it depends on what kind of conferences we are talking about.

And another question. When you talk about young Roma, who exactly do you mean? Could you please define the age limits of the young Roma, for example? Because a 16 years girl is young Roma. But if she is a mother already, then she probably already faces the problems of the "not-so-young" Roma people. She is "not" young anymore.

Thank you!

Conferences are helping to develop professional connections, thus assist the youth with employment, further education and the increase of other opportunities.

I mean the ones who are above 15, who have graduated, at least, primary school, intend to continue their education and not bound by having children before they reach 20. Of course, they may not represent the dominant majority among the other young Roma, but, still, there are enough of them in Roma communities of CE and SEE.

Hi Valery,

I think awareness of the Decade of Roma Inclusion is important. I know of some families in Europe who have no idea that it exists.

But these families have no access to the internet or media... so what to do?

I believe that for any event to have success now-a-days there needs to be a lot of promotion and advertisement. There isn't enough of this when it comes to the Decade of Roma Inclusion.

If the youth have no idea what is going on or how they can benefit from being included, etc, then how can they participate in the first place?
