Author: Thomas Dixon ( United Kingdom )
Dr. Thomas Dixon is research fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge.
There have been very few human societies in which no meat or fish are eaten, although in some parts of the world the normal diet is made up largely of staple foods such as rice, with meat and fish being relatively rare additions; this has often been due to poverty rather than choice. In modern Western societies, however, 'voluntary' vegetarianism is on the increase. This debate is about whether it is right for human beings to eat other animals (including fish). To take an even more absolute line, the proposition could argue for veganism - this means eating no dairy produce or eggs (as well as no meat or fish).Last edited on Fri Feb 16th, 2007 04:07 pm by

I don't see why there is so big of a deal between vegitarianism and canivorism. In my philoshiphy of life I think that vegitaians should eat vegitables and canivores should eat meat. It is as simple as that to just let people from different views on eating habbets to just go their own ways, vegitariens will be mad at carnivores and visa-versa, but ruthfullyl yelling and butal debates about these subject cannot solve it!
It is true, humans (as are selfs) are not built to eat meat. Look at our teeth. Anybody with a elemntary education can tell you that alll animals with flat teeth, such as humans, are vegitariens. Other such mammles and Lizzards have much sharper, filled down, teeth ment to pierce tough meat. But being part of the human phyllum we have spreed our diet to meat, and for what resaon? To survive.
Way back, back in the cave-man era, when man with big stick would hunt down elk and other such animals, they would kill it to gain susstance for the winter. Heck, every other spiecies has done it. And now vegitariens are trying to stop man from eating what has been eaten for eons and eons for u to be alive to this very day.
But Carnivores are also putting down vegitariens in this same way I have done above, but they do not show what the oterside has to prove. Eating vegiitable and fruit is a great source of protien and calcium and other very essental vitimens and minerals to ,again, help us survive. They have come up with some amazing, absolutly fantastic mediciens to get us through sickness and neer fatal illnesses.
So, here's my soulution. If what I have just said is correct, and veggietables give you minerals and protien, and meat gives you susstance and energy, Then if I where to stop careing, just throw all trobles and wrongs and such away..... and eat them both......
Would that make me a super human? Wold that make me unamaginably helthy?
No. I would be a normal 15 year old boy living an ordinary life, not overeating not being lazy. I would live a peacfull, fulfilling life.
Right?
Wrong...
Because of people strictly vegitarian or carnivorus would go and [expletive removed] everyhting up and go on yelling and proving that there right and the others are obiously wrong so blantly that it just DESTROYS the pourpose of being human anymore.
Just eat both.

Debatabase: Eating meat is bad for the environment. According to Daniele Fanelli of New Scientist, “A kilogram of beef is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution than driving for 3 hours while leaving all the lights on back home. http://environment.newscientist.com/article/mg19526134.500-meat-is-murder-on-the-environment.html
chic_8: It is not necessary too eat meat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle (and in many ways eating meat can be bad for your health eg: “High meat consumption linked to gastric-cancer risk. The Lancet Oncology, Volume 7, Issue 4, Pages 287-287 L. O'Hanlon )
live2debate: Perhaps animals were put on this earth to help maintain it's intricate ecosystem; and by farming, genetically modifying, and selectively breeding them we are only damaging the delicate ecosystem so carefully designed by God. I don’t know, I’m an atheist.
Devan.C: You can get all the nutrients you need from vegetables, with the exception of vit. B12, which you can get from eating bugs (as gorillas do to get theirs)… or, of course, you can always opt for vitamin supplements.

| Eating just meat would leave you malnutritioned, eating just meat would also not be "healthy". The easiest way is to eat both like what Devan.C said.

I think you were going to write like this
"Eating just meat would leave you malnutritioned, eating just vegetable would also not be "healthy". The easiest way is to eat both like what Devan.C said."
If I'm right, I have the similar opinion with yours.

I have the same opinion. Eating only meat or vegetable is too extreme to select one, so I think eating both is the best choice. Also, vegetarian has no right to criticize people who eat meat. I think this problem is up to personal choice. We should respect their choice

In my mind,if vegetarianism think that eating meat is too cure for the animals, but not only foods was taking from the animals.
Just like perfume, many ladys love to use it.But do you think about how to make this?although you think that it is the residual product of petroleum gas,in fact,it maybe taken from the whales! The fats of the whales can be very useful such as energy of lights, the material of high quality soap or lubricating oil.But do you think that perfume
is came from fats of whales?
In my mind,i think that it not important for the eating habit of human,it is important for that : Do you love animals turely?Although
you not eat them and you using it,this also cure to these animals!

The Vegetarianism isn't as good as You said. I think It will be good if You have different types of meal. Here I mean different meat, fruits and vegetables. Because our organism neeeds in vitamins.
But I don't say that the person who can't eat meat must eat it.

So horribly delicious.
I don't care what anybody elses diet is, but i would never be a vegatarian. I love food like steaks, burgers, jerky. For those of you who preach about how bad the effects of cows are on the environment, what about hunting for animals? Wild animals are going to be responsible for some greenhouse gases wether we eat meat or not.

I'm a vegetarian, very healthy...
I never feel like I'm missing something in a meal.
I don't yell at people if they eat meat in front of me.
I don't try to push vegetarianism on anyone else who doesn't want it.
a couple things-
if you eat seafood you're not a vegetarian.
don't eat meat like you're starving in front of me, it's not amusing.
don't bitch at me and i wont at you.

"All of the problems the proposition mention would exist without meat..."
a response to this-
you can live healthy without meat.
you cannot without vegetables.
HA! priorities, my friend.
the EARTH is you're friend.
but i guess not for long.

| Of the little amount of people that are vegies and vegans in the world do you think that if you stop eating meat that the other people are going to follow?! NO! So what in the world are you thinking that if you starve yourself of nutrition that it is going to save the animals from farmers who don't give a crap about you! They produce food that people demand. And the demanding people won't yeild to you...
