  • The expansion of the EU
  • Migration in the EU
  • Environmental protection in the EU
  • Increased EU engagement in world affairs
These topics have been suggested and discussed by the young people participating in EYS project activities in our partner countries.

Please express your opinion on these topics in a form of a resolution (you can find information on how to prepare resolutions in the IDEA European Youth Parliament Manual). Please email your resolutions to Jurate Motiejunaite at jmotiejunaite@idebate.org by March 10th.

International Debate Education Association (IDEA) has the pleasure to invite you to the European Youth Speak Conference which will have a form of a session of European Youth Parliament. The session will provide you with an opportunity to test yourself at the challenges of being a youth parliamentarian and addressing the most pressing issues facing the young people in Europe today. Have your say and come to the IDEA European Youth Parliament in Amsterdam!

What is IDEA European Youth Parliament?

European Youth Parliament organized by IDEA will be an interactive opportunity for high school and university students to discuss and debate the issues and challenges facing the young people in Europe today. By participating in the session of the Youth Parliament conference, you will represent your youth constituency and work with other delegates on preparing resolutions that will later be presented to the appropriate programs and agencies of the European Institutions (e.g. the European Commission, Council of Europe). During the two-day session you will work in 2 person-teams and will be involved in resolution drafting, debates and discussions, lobbying, negotiating and voting. By simulating the discussions held in the European Parliament and trying to achieve a majority agreement in the form of resolutions, you and your fellow delegates will learn about the challenges facing the European politicians today and learn how to put European and international issues in a more local and personal context.

Why participate in IDEA European Youth Parliament?

The IDEA European Youth Parliament will be an exciting education activity that will allow you to achieve the following personal objectives:

  • Improving independent research skills
  • Developing organizational skills
  • Expanding knowledge of European issues, with particular focus on youth
  • Strengthening ability to negotiate and debate
  • Learning about diplomatic behavior
  • Improving leadership skills
  • Improving public speaking skills
  • Meeting young people with interesting and varied backgrounds
IDEA hopes that you will take a full advantage of this exciting opportunity.

What activities will take place?

As a youth parliamentarian you will participate in the following activities:

  1. Plenary sessions of the European Youth Parliament – the sessions will be chaired by a chairperson who will conduct the proceedings according to the established parliamentary rules. During the sessions, you and your partner will be able to propose motions, engage other delegates in debates (e.g. by presenting your own arguments and responding to arguments presented by others) and vote on proposed motions.
  2. Working in Committees- you will have an opportunity to discuss selected issues more narrowly in respective committees and work on drafting resolutions – proposals to address identified issues and problems. During that process you will be able to lobby for your proposals, make joint proposals with other delegations as well as debate proposals presented by others.
  3. Drafting a resolution- you will be asked to draft your team’s resolution before coming to the session of the IDEA European Youth Parliament – during the sessions you will have the opportunity to refine your proposals, taking into consideration input from other delegates.
  4. Voting on resolutions- together with fellow delegates in plenary sessions of the Youth Parliament you will have an opportunity to vote on proposed resolutions. Resolutions which will receive the majority of votes will be subsequently presented to the European Institutions and published on IDEA website (www.idebate.org) and in the Idebate magazine.
What are the next steps?
