  What is IDEA Radio?

Good Morning, Debaters!

Have you have ever wanted to be a DJ or a Radio Journalist? Well, now is your chance to be a Debate Jockey, with IDEA Radio, streaming 24/7 to the world. IDEA Radio will broadcast a variety of content: youth citizen journalism, debate news, debates, and instructional programming.

Youth Citizen Journalism - These are reports on issues affecting the lives of young people around the world. Keep everyone updated with your area of the world. Reflect upon contemporary issues. Share your views on issues facing youth today. If there is a topic you feel strongly about and want to share your views, then become a radio journalist on IDEA radio.

Debates - Record local debates and send those in to us!

Teaching Tools - Share the secrets of debating success with new and upcoming debaters. Share your views on debate techniques and theory, or, offer information and advice on different formats. Here, you can also share your views on specific debate topics. Present case ideas, or offer constructive criticism to the questions of your debating colleagues.

Music - Talk is great but music is also a powerful means of communicating ideas. Share with other music that has inspired you or that you have created.

IDEA radio is urging you to be creative, informative, and to have fun. IDEA radio is a new platform to help you channel your love of debate. After you.ve submitted your piece, sit back, tune in, and turn up the volume... IDEA radio is on the air!

For more information on youth radio, including submission guidelines as well as terms and conditions, please contact Nat Avino Towsen.

How to Contribute to IDEA Radio?

IDEA Radio is a community project - created for the community. This is your space to show off your skills and talents so we encourage you to send us your broadcasts - and we will include them in our stream for everyone to hear. Host your show, report from an event, debate - be a part of IDEA Radio!

Submission Guidelines

The content you provide needs to be formatted in a specific manner, and of sufficient quality. For us to include your submissions within our broadcasted stream, the audio files need to be encoded in MP3 or Windows Media [WMA]. Suggested recording bitrate is 128kbps with the minumum set at 64kbps.

The choice of supplying mono or stereo recordings is up to you. As far as length of recordings is concerned, the minumum is 2 minutes, with the maximum being 30 minutes.

For some specific instructions on creating and formatting radio content, please check here.

Getting the Content to IDEA

Seeing that most of the broadcasts will be longer than several minutes, and thus exceed the limits of many mail servers, the best way to get the file to us is to upload it to IDEA"s FTP server. To do that, you will need a FTP program. If you don"t have one, a good, and free software is FileZilla. You can download FileZilla here.

Using FileZilla and FTP

FTP has many similarities to any old folder on your computer, with the exception of being hosted on a remote location. Thus, copying files to IDEA"s FTP is pretty much like copying files from one folder to another. FileZilla looks and feels pretty much like Windows Explorer, in the sense that supports drap-and-drop.

Once you install FileZilla, you need to supply the address of the FTP, and the login details. When you are connected, you simply drag your broadcast from your folder on the left side of the program to the FTP folder on the right side of the program. As soon as the uploading is finished - you can close FileZilla - and we will review your broadcast!

FTP Details

The address of the server is ftp.ideaftp.org. For the user details, please click here.
