67 participants coming from 26 different countries will be attending this year's IDEA Institute!
IDEA's annual Debate and Citizen Journalism Institute, co-sponsored by Bloomfield College, is a three-week event that will take place at beautiful Decemko Resort, a private resort on the Aegean Sea in western Turkey, June 29th-July 19th. The Institute is endorsed by the National Forensic League (NFL) in the U.S. For more information about Decemko, please visit the Location section of the website.
To attend the IDEA Institute, you need to:
1) Register and select your course track at www.idebate.org/tournaments.
2) Upon Registration, you will be emailed three items: a pre-event survey, a medical form, and a certification of release/permission form. Email the survey to icionea@umd.edu. Bring the medical form and certification of release/permission form with you to the event or send with your Institute deposit. You will not be allowed to attend the institute without the form and release.
3) Send your Institute deposit (Details on the Fees and Scholarships page.)
The National Forensic League (NFL) has agreed to endorse IDEA's Summer Institute! Given the fact that the NFL is a highly respected and competitive debate honor society, this is great news! NFL will also be sending a staff person to be on staff during the Institute.
Five tracks are available for participants to choose from when registering. Each track functions as a student’s major. Within each track, students will take a total of three classes.
Brief track description to follow below.
Track 1: Citizen Journalism
This track is intended for students interested in journalism and media. Students will be taking three classes: “Journalism and story writing,” “Art as advocacy,” and “Journalism and media tools.”
