European Youth Speak: Unity in Diversity Exchange.

Unity in Diversity Exchange has started in Amsterdam. Over 30 participants from the Netherlands, Romania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Lithuania are taking part in the training on Legislative Debate, as well as other exciting debate events.
The training at the Unity in Diversity Exchange is conducted by Veronika Vlckova, IDEA Forum Coordinator, and Marcin Zaleski, IDEA Director of Training and Curriculum.

November 9th commemorates the 18th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall; this marks a "coming of age" of a new generation in Europe--a generation of youth who have grown up after this significant event in world history. The new website, www.euyouthspeak.org, will be a place to promote debate and discussion on most European and global issues. The Decade of Roma Inclusion is an initiative adopted by eight countries in Central and Southeast Europe, and supported by IDEA. It represents the first cooperative effort to change the lives of Roma in Europe. An action framework for governments, the Decade, which runs from 2005-2015, will monitor progress in accelerating social inclusion and improving the economic and social status of Roma across the region. IDEA's is participating in the Decade by promoting debate and discussion on issues relating to Roma.

Turkey first applied to join the European Community, the pre-cursor of the European Union, in April, 1987. In 1999, Turkey was recognized as a candidate for EU membership and formal accession negotiations began in October of last year.
