Discovering the World Through Debate, 3rd edition
A Practical Guide to Educational Debate for Debaters, Coaches and Judges
by Robert Trapp, Joseph P. Zompetti, Jurate Motiejuna

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Robert Trapp is professor of rhetoric and media studies and director of forensics at Willamette University. Joseph P. Zompetti is assistant professor of communication and director of debate at Mercer University. He received his Ph.D. from Wayne State, where he wrote his dissertation on the rhetorical strategies of resistance of Cesar Chavez. Zompetti's research interests include the intersection of rhetoric and power and debate pedagogy. Jurate Motiejunaite is a Ph.D. candidate at the department of interdisciplinary studies at the University of Alberta. William Driscoll, a graduate of Williams College and Oxford University, has taught English, theater, Latin, Greek, history and political philosophy at various schools in the New York area.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
The book provides a practical guide to educational debate in an international setting. It offres a comprehensive introduction to the Karl Popper debate format and presents in-depth, step-by-step information on how to prepare and run a debate event. The third edition has been completely revised and expanded to meet the needs of students who are ready to progress to new and more complex levels of argumentation and debate. New chapters on argumentation promote a more complete examination of the process of argument construction and provide a thorough discussion of constructing arguments for and against various kinds of debate propositions. As in previous editions, the book presents preactical illustrations to help users understand complex concepts.
